Bacterial antigens
Treponema
Treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum is the causative agent of syphilis. Since Treponema is not cultivable, serological methods have a high priority in diagnosis. Antigens reactive with serum samples include TmpA and the 47-kDa, 17-kDa, and 15-kDa lipoproteins. These antigens are potentially useful as vaccine candidates or diagnostic markers.
