Parvovirus - viral antigens

Viral antigens

Parvovirus

The human parvovirus B19 is the causative agent of erythema infectiosum and occurs worldwide. The seroprevalence of B19-specific antibodies is about 50% in Western industrial countries. The virion consists of an icosahedral capsid composed of two different viral proteins VP1 and VP2. In addition, the virus contains a non-structural protein NS-1. Infections with human parvovirus B19 can be detected through presence of antibodies against the structural proteins VP1 and VP2 and non-structural protein NS-1.
